The move that makes the title catch up to you

LIFT Newsletter 063

Over the last couple of weeks we built two moves a leader uses to get things done. The request, asking clearly so nothing gets lost in a hint. The offer, putting yourself forward for the work that decides what you get known for. Both act on what is already in front of you.

This week's move creates what is not there yet.

The declaration.

A declaration is you saying something is so, and by saying it, starting to make it so.

“This is where we are going.”

“We are not doing that anymore.”

“I am ready for this.”

You call it into being before there is proof, then live in a way that turns it true.

Here is what most people never grasp. You do not earn the title and then become the leader. You declare the leader first, you carry yourself like one, and the title catches up.

Almost nobody works this way, which is why so many capable people stall.

They wait to be told they are ready.

They stay quiet until someone hands them the authority to speak.

And while they wait, the role goes to the one who declared it long before it was official.

Readiness is not a feeling that arrives one morning. It is a declaration you make, then back with how you act.

It matters more the moment you lead others.

A team with no declared direction does not hold still, it drifts, and drift costs more than a wrong turn. Say nothing about where you are taking them or what you will not tolerate, and the silence fills with everyone's private guesses. Declare, and you hand them something solid to move around.

That is the line between a manager who assigns work and a leader people choose to follow.

One warning.

Words you never back become noise, and a leader whose declarations keep ringing hollow loses the standing to make them.

So declare, then move in line with what you said.

A declaration is a promise to the future, and it only holds if you keep showing up as the person who made it.

So this week, make one. Name a direction out loud, before you feel ready, because ready is not coming. Then take one action that same day that proves you meant it.

And if it shifts something, in how a room treats you or how you hold yourself in it, hit reply and tell me. I would love to hear what you declared.

Lead Beyond Yourself. Rise Beyond Limits.

In your corner as you claim it,

Cassandra Nadira and the LIFT Team.
